In order for our users to more easily navigate College websites, we seek to create a culture of consistency in our navigation categories and their placement on a website. This does not mean that all navigation is identical–that would be an impossible task given the breadth and diversity of our programs. But, when possible, we seek consistency in navigation to help web users who might be browsing several College sites (seeking two degrees, searching for a course, or considering a minor) to find this information more easily.
We do ask you to complete a web update request form if new navigation is needed for your website. We will work with you to ensure proper placement, naming, and integration with the rest of your site. This might be the case if you have a new degree offering, academic program, newsletter, etc.
- Typically, no more than seven primary navigation categories can exist, and these navigation categories must remain consistent with the College’s overall departmental architecture. Consult with the College Communications + Marketing team should you wish to request new navigation. [Note: when necessary, it is possible to utilize eight primary navigation categories as long as space allows.]
- All navigation is capitalized, except for prepositions.
- The Student Portal section, where current students in your department can conduct the “business of being a student,” is located in the header at the top right.
- The Contact page is located in the header at the top right.
- The Faculty + Staff Intranet (optional) is located in the footer.
